Election Day Communion

"A simple vision" or "A radical idea" . . .
The Church being the Church on Election Day,
gathering at the Lord’s Table to remember,
to practice,
to give thanks for,
and to proclaim its allegiance to Christ.

As the rancor and bitterness of this election reach new highs (and new lows),
we’ve seen the spirit of divisiveness seep into our communities,  our neighborhoods, even our churches.
This year more than ever we need to remind ourselves where our true hope is found.
We need to participate in holy acts of union and reconciliation.
We need to declare our allegiance to Jesus, the prince of peace.

In 2012, around 900 churches observed Election Day Communion because YOU helped spread the word, YOU planned the services and opened the doors of your churches, YOU decided that a different statement needed to be made.

This year, many churches across the country will be observing Election Day Communion.  Some have shared what they have done and/or what they will be doing.

Click here for links for many resources and comments from participants.

We are the Church, and we’re in this together — together, with Jesus.

Election Day Communion was launched in 2012 by  Mark Schloneger (Pastor, North Goshen Mennonite Church, Goshen, IN), Kevin Gasser (Pastor, Staunton Mennonite Church, Staunton, VA) Ben Irwin (Creator, The Story; lay Episcopalian, Grand Rapids, MI).
It’s being carried forward in 2016 by the Peace and Justice Support Network of Mennonite Church USA and Mennonite Mission Network, in consultation with Mark, Kevin, Ben and all of you who make this movement possible with your ideas, enthusiasm and passion.
